Leverett (John) is born in Lincolnshire, England.

John Leverett arrives in Boston on board the Griffin on September 14, 1633 (OS-9/4), and lives initially near today’s 201 Washington Street. He becomes a merchant, returns to England to fight for Oliver Cromwell, then returns to Boston by 1647, when he marries Sarah Sedgwick. Leverett serves in the Massachusetts General Court, as a Boston selectman (1651), and as governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony (1673*-1678), and dies in 1679.
